I think I need an abortion

If you are thinking about abortion we are an important first step in your journey for
information. Abortion is a legal option in Canada and thousands are performed each year.
However, like every medical procedure, there are risks you need to be aware of before making
your decision.

Possible Physical Risks:

  • Infection
  • Heavy bleeding
  • Damage to the cervix or uterus
  • Increased risk of infertility
  • Increased risk of future miscarriage
  • Increased risk of premature births

Possible Emotional Risks:

Some women feel immediate relief after the abortion while others have negative emotions
immediately or years later.  Our trained peer support workers will help you work through your decision. Regardless of the
outcome, we will be here to support you.

Post-Abortion Support – Living in Colour

For the woman who is experiencing emotional distress after an abortion, the Centre offers one-on-one peer counseling through our Living in Colour Program.  This may also be offered in a group setting.  Many women, even decades following an abortion, find themselves needing help to heal and move forward.  Living in Colour will guide them through this process.  This support is offered by a peer counselor and not intended as a substitute for professional counseling.
